Rising housing costs. Changing family structures. A growing elderly population. What do these mean for the future of housing in the Philippines?

Join the SA¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ (PIDS) public webinar on April 24, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM via Zoom, as we present two SA¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½studies on household structures, demographic changes, and housing policies in the Philippines.

The first study, “,” authored by SA¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½Vice President Marife Ballesteros, Research Specialist Jenica  Ancheta, and Supervising Research Specialist Tatum Ramos, analyzes how demographic shifts influence household structures and housing choices. It underscores the interconnectedness of population dynamics, the housing market, and wealth distribution in shaping housing demand. The study emphasizes the importance of aligning housing strategies with demographic trends to accommodate both the working-age population and the growing elderly sector.

The second study, titled “,” by the same authors, examines the factors contributing to the rise of extended and multifamily households. While cultural traditions play a role, the study finds that limited housing options and homeownership challenges also drive this trend. These findings highlight the need for a more responsive housing policy that addresses affordability and accessibility.
